Lions Host Southeast Missouri In Non-Conference Hoops Action

First 250 students to receive free Cane's and study packs

HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team returns to action on Saturday when it plays host to Ohio Valley Conference member Southeast Missouri at the University Center.

Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net. A live video stream (subscription required) is available in the Fan Zone at www.LionSports.net. Tickets are available at the University Center Ticket Office (at Gate 3) beginning at 3 p.m. or on-line at www.LionSports.net.

In preparation for final exams, which take place beginning on Monday, all Southeastern students are encouraged to “Take A Study Break With Lions' Basketball” at the game. The event, which is sponsored by Southeastern Athletics and the Southeastern Student Government Association, will feature free food from Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers and study packs for the first 250 students in attendance.

Southeastern (1-4) looks to bounce back after a disappointing 99-62 loss at Louisiana Tech on Wednesday. The Lions, who led for much of the first half, built a 14-point lead before the Bulldogs stormed back to take a 30-28 lead at intermission. Louisiana Tech pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Lions, 69-34, and finished 35-for-63 from the floor.

Dre Evans led Southeastern with 19 points while Brandon Fortenberry added 10. Roosevelt Johnson grabbed a season-high eight rebounds for the Lions while Fortenberry grabbed a season-high seven.

On the season, Fortenberry leads Southeastern in scoring at 9.8 points per game followed by Evans (9.2), Johnson (8.6) and Jeffery Ricard (8.2). Antonnio Benton (7.3), Onochie Ochie (6.2), Jeremy Campbell (5.6) and Todd Nelson (5.0) are next in scoring for the Lions, who average 61.8 points per game.

Johnson leads Southeastern with 5.0 rebounds per game with Jan Petrovcic (4.8) and Benton (4.7) next. Evans has dished out a team-high 2.8 assists for Southeastern followed by Fortenberry with 2.6.

Southeast Missouri (5-4) opened a three-game road trip on Thursday with an 83-67 victory over UNO at Lakefront Arena as Tyler Stone posted a double-double with 23 points and 14 rebounds. Lucas Nutt scored a season-high 16 points for the Redhawks while Nino Johnson added a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds with four blocked shots.

Stone leads Southeast Missouri in scoring (16.1) and rebounds (9.3) and is second on the team blocked shots (12). Corey Wilford is next in scoring for the Redhawks at 13.9 points per game with Johnson following at 11.4 points with 9.1 rebounds and an OVC-high 24 blocked shots. Southeast Missouri, which defeated McNeese State on Nov. 15, averages 69.8 points per game while allowing 61.9.

Southeast Missouri leads the all-time series that dates back to the 1953-54 season, 3-0. The Redhawks claimed a 63-61 overtime victory in last year's contest in Cape Girardeau as Stone posted a double-double with 18 points and 17 rebounds. Johnson came off the bench for Southeastern to score a team-high 15 points while Fortenberry added 14.
