Southeastern Closes Road Slate at Oral Roberts

HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana soccer team will close the road portion of its regular season schedule on Sunday, when it faces new Southland Conference member Oral Roberts at 1 p.m.

Both the Lady Lions (9-6-1, 3-2-1 Southland) and the host Golden Eagles (10-5-2, 4-2 Southland) will be looking to improve their seeding for the Southland Conference Tournament, scheduled for Nov. 1-4 in Lake Charles. Live stats and video will be provided by ORU and can be accessed at www.LionSports.net.

Southeastern has won its last two matches in league play. In their most recent action, the Lady Lions picked up a 2-0 shutout victory over Central Arkansas. Seniors Megan Miller and Sam McNally each scored goals in the win. Miller also had an assist, as did senior Kailey Mills. Senior Lacey Bockhaus (Goalkeeper of the Week) and freshman Cheyenne Maxwell (Defensive Player of the Week) were honored by the Southland Conference for their efforts in Southeastern's second straight shutout.

Southeastern's balanced offense features 13 players who have accounted for the team's 34 goals. Senior Maiya Cooper leads the team with 10 goals and is the only player in school history with four seasons of double-digit goals. Freshman Kayla Vera and junior Kelsey Salcido follow with four goals apiece.

Vera is also the team's top distributor with five assists. Senior Kerry McWhirter follows with four, while Salcido and senior Lauren Stillians have three apiece.

Maxwell, Stillians, McWhirter, junior Shanyce Shaw, sophomore Chelsea Villaescusa, freshman Erin Christ and freshman Maddie Allen have all seen time in the back for a Lady Lion defense that has allowed just over a goal per match. Bockhaus has handled all the goalkeeping duties, entering Sunday with a 1.05 goals against average and seven shutouts.

Oral Roberts is led in scoring by Kalya Keller, who has a team-high five goals. Megan Giles and Jennifer Abernathy share the team lead with five assists. Helen Orb (0.89 GAA) has handled the majority of the work in the net.

Following Sunday's match, Southeastern will close out its regular season on Friday, hosting Northwestern State at 3 p.m. at the Southeastern Soccer Complex. Seniors Miller, McNally, Mills, Bockhaus, Cooper, McWhirter, Stillians, Karly Dagys, Cassie Northrup, Tabitha McReynolds and Dana Songe will be honored prior to Friday's match in a Senior Day ceremony.
