Lacey Bockhaus made it hold with a season-high 11 saves, as the Southeastern women's soccer team picked up a 1-0 Southland Conference victory over
Nicholls State Friday afternoon at the Nicholls Soccer Complex.
Southeastern (8-6-1, 2-2-1 Southland) continued its dominance in the all-time series with the Colonels, improving to 22-0 versus its in-state and league rival. Nicholls (5-9, 0-4 Southland) remained winless in league action.
The goal was the team-high 10
th of the season for Cooper. The Hawthorne, Calif. native is the first player in program history to post double-digit goals in four consecutive seasons.
Nicholls would not go away, quietly, however, as Bockhaus and the Lady Lions faced 18 shots in the victory. Bockhaus' save total led to the San Leandro, Calif. product's sixth shutout of the season and the 36
th shutout of her career – extending her school record.
“We were really pleased with the team's defensive effort in today's win,” Southeastern head coach
Blake Hornbuckle commented. “Maiya set the tone with a nice goal.
Cheyenne Maxwell played an excellent match in the back and Lacey stepped up big for us today.”
Cooper found an open net and sent a shot past NSU goalkeeper Amanda Boylson just over eight minutes into the match. She is now second in school history with 47 goals, 110 points and 13 game-winning goals in her career.
Southeastern will be back home on Sunday, hosting Southland foe Central Arkansas at 1 p.m. at the Southeastern Soccer Complex. Sunday's game will be dedicated to Breast Cancer Awareness and Southeastern Athletics will provide giveaways to fans attending the match.
