Hot-Hitting Lady Lions Defeat Jaguars In Non-Conference Play

Southeastern posts best single-match hitting percentage since 2004

BATON ROUGE – Courtney Donald and freshman Elizabeth Ramee collected 13 kills each and the Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team hit a blistering .400 at the net in defeating Southern University, 25-20, 25-14, 25-23, on Tuesday at Seymour Gym.

Lindsey Young added eight kills and 37 assists as Southeastern (2-7) snapped a four-match losing streak. Megan McMillin led the Lady Lions with 14 digs while Taylor Buckner added 12.

Southeastern, which recorded 46 kills with eight errors in 95 attempts, posted a .394 average (15-2-33) in the opening set before capturing the second set with a .429 clip (14-2-28). The Lady Lions closed out the match hitting .382 in the third set (17-4-34) in recording their best single-match performance since hitting .432 (45-7-88) against Louisiana-Monroe in 2004.

Young led the Lady Lions at the net with an .800 percentage (8-0-10) while Ramee finished at .600 for the match (13-1-20). Donald, who had a team-high 26 attempts, finished at .423 with two errors.

Payton Mitchell led Southern (0-5) with 10 kills while Chanda Journet had 21 assists and four aces. The Jaguars hit .085 (16-11-59) after the first two sets and finished at .157 for the match (28-14-89).

Southeastern will return to action on Friday when it competes in the Louisiana Tech Invitational in Ruston. The Lady Lions will open against Big 12 opponent Texas Tech at noon before facing host Louisiana Tech at 7 p.m. Southeastern closes out the tournament, and its eight-match roadtrip, on Saturday when it faces Grambling at 11 a.m.
