HAMMOND - The Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team opens its 2011 home schedule on Tuesday when it faces Southwestern Athletic Conference member Jackson State in the University Center.
First serve is at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the University Center Box Office beginning one hour before the start of the match. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for youth ages 3-17 and $2 per person for groups of 15 or more. All Southeastern students are admitted free with their valid ID.
The home opener is slated as "Dig the Lions" Night with free food and T-Shirts (while supplies last) will be available for all Southeastern students.
Southeastern (0-3) opened its 38th season of volleyball last weekend in the Mississippi State Maroon Classic in Starkville. The Lady Lions opened the two-day event with a three-set loss to eventual champion UT Martin on Friday before falling to Southern Illinois and host Mississippi State on Saturday.
Sophomore
Kinsey Williams paced Southeastern on the floor recording 2.44 kills per set and a .211 hitting percentage en route to earning All-Tournament honors for the second time in her career.
Paige Dollison (2.33 kills per set) is next in hitting for the Lady Lions.
Arianne Cruckshank leads Southeastern with 3.11 digs per set followed by
Chelsea Barr (2.89),
Lindsey Young (2.67) and
Taylor Buckner (2.67).
Jackson State (1-2) opened its season at the Southern Miss Invitational, defeating Chattanooga while falling in four sets to Northwestern State and Southern Miss.
Southeastern claimed the previous meeting between the schools in a five-set marathon in the 2010 season opener for both teams in the Jackson State Invitational. After facing JSU, Southeastern will head back out on the road for four matches this weekend in the South Alabama Jaguar Classic.
The Lady Lions will open play on Friday against Louisiana Tech and host South Alabama before facing Alabama A&M and Samford on Saturday.
