HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana and UTSA softball teams traded lopsided victories on Saturday, as the two teams split a Southland Conference doubleheader at North Oak Park.
In the opener, sophomore pitcher
Kenna Terry (3-3) held UTSA (17-21, 9-11 Southland) to five hits in a complete-game victory. Nine Lady Lions accounted for Southeastern's nine hits, as the Lady Lions (15-19, 5-9 Southland) extended their home winning streak to six games. Senior

Megan McCollum each had a run scored and an RBI in the win for the Lady Lions.
UTSA turned the tables in game two, coming away with an 8-0 victory in six innings. Emily Humpal (7-3) held Southeastern to four hits in five innings of shutout work for the Roadrunners. Carrie Monroe, Ashley Kappler and Humpal each drove in a pair of runs for UTSA. Sophomore
Kelsey Nichols was 2-for-3 in the loss for Southeastern, raising her team-high batting average to .411.

Game One – Southeastern Louisiana 7, UTSA 1
Southeastern took the early lead in the bottom of the second inning off UTSA starter Danye Holmes (3-3). Junior
Katie Matthews led off the inning with a single, then Gomez laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt. Caitlyn Ivy fielded Gomez's bunt cleanly, but her throw to first sailed wide, putting a pair of runners in scoring position with no outs.
Moore followed with a single to left to score Matthews. After senior
Tamra Ladnier drew a one-out walk to load the bases, McCollum lined a one-out single to plate Gomez. After recording the second out, Holmes hit Nichols to force in another run, giving Southeastern a 3-0 lead.
UTSA did not get its first hit off Terry until Laura Little lined a double into the left centerfield gap to lead off the third. Little eventually moved over to third after Terry retired the next two batters. Ashley Kappler then ripped a line drive to center, but sophomore
Michelle Duhe made a diving catch to save a run and end the frame.
The Lady Lions added another run in the fourth with a two-out rally.
Michelle Duhe singled, advanced to third on a single by Nichols and scored when
Katie Duhe beat out an infield single to put the Lady Lions up, 4-0.
UTSA pulled closer in the sixth inning, as Molly Fichtner ripped a home run over the left field fence to lead off the inning. A single by Kristin Kappler and a walk to Ivy put a pair on with one out, but Terry battled back to retire Nikki Goff and Jori Fox to keep the Southeastern lead at 4-1.
Any hope of a UTSA comeback was ended in the bottom of the sixth inning, as the Lady Lions took advantage of three Roadrunner errors. A pair of miscues by Monroe allowed McCollum to score the inning's first run. Gomez would drive in another run on a sacrifice fly and freshman
Tori Sheppard capped the scoring with a single up the middle to put the Lady Lions up, 7-1.
Terry sat UTSA down in order in the seventh inning to complete the win. All three of the Baytown, Texas native's wins this season have come in league play.
Game Two – UTSA 8, Southeastern Louisiana 0
Southeastern mounted the game's first threat in the bottom of the first inning, as singles by Nichols and
Katie Duhe put a pair on with one out. However, Humpal retired Matthews and Gomez to keep Southeastern off the board.
In the second inning, Moore drew a walk and Ladnier followed with a bunt single to put runners at first and second with no outs. Humpal again pitched out of trouble, sitting down freshman
Hali Westmoreland, McCollum and
Michelle Duhe in order to keep the game scoreless.
Lady Lion sophomore
Kati Morse (3-6) sat the first six Roadrunners down, before Humpal reached on an error by
Katie Duhe to open the third inning. After Morse walked Siera Sproul, she settled down to retire the next two UTSA batters. However, Ashley Kappler lined a shot just in front of a diving Nichols in left field. With Nichols off her feet, the ball rolled to the left field fence for a bases-clearing double and a 2-0 lead.
UTSA chased Morse with three consecutive hits to open the fourth inning. Senior
Bailey Zievert was greeted by a two-run double by Humpal to put the Roadrunners up, 4-0.
Southeastern again left a pair of runners stranded in the bottom of the fourth inning. Walks to Moore and junior
Trish Bliss gave Southeastern two on base with two outs, but Humpal forced McCollum to ground out to end the frame.
UTSA broke open the game in the sixth inning. A two-run single by Monroe opened the scoring in the frame. Another run came in on an illegal pitch by freshman
Jessie Browne. UTSA pushed its lead to 8-0 on a Westmoreland passed ball.
Morgan Luksa came in to pitch a perfect sixth inning to close out the mercy rule win for the Roadrunners.
