Burns Named SLC Student-Athlete of the Year; Five Lions Claim Southland All-Academic Honors

Burns, Magee, Schneider, Detillier, Morris recognized for excellence on and off the field

HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana University sophomore pitcher Hallie Burns was named Southland Conference Student-Athlete of the Year and was one of five Lions to represent SLU on the 2026 SLC All-Academic Softball Teams, the league office announced Thursday.

Burns, a kinesiology major with a 3.95 grade point average, was joined on the SLC All-Academic team by Chloe Magee (3.83 GPA, kinesiology), Cydnee Schneider (3.72, general studies), Maria Detillier (3.98, accounting) and Shelby Morris (3.91, kinesiology).

Burns, a native of Booneville, Miss., was the first player in program history to be named Southland Pitcher of the Year to go with her second team NFCA All-Gulf Region and SLC All-Tournament honors. Burns finished 20-5 in the circle with a 1.68 earned run average and two saves, striking out 107 and holding batters to a .168 batting average in 112.2 innings pitched.

Magee was recognized after earning All-Southland Conference honors for the third straight season. The Watson, Louisiana native hit .335 with a team-high 25 walks, 13 sacrifice hits and 23 stolen bases.

Schneider claimed SLC All-Academic honors to go with her first team All-SLC and Southland All-Defensive Team accolades. The Elkhorn, Neb. native hit .386 this spring with a single-season school record-tying 20 doubles, as well as 68 hits and 39 RBI.

Like Schneider, Detillier was a first team All-Southland and SLC All-Defensive honoree. A season after earning Southland Conference Student-Athlete of the Year honors, the Gramercy, La. product finished as the program's career leader in runs, RBI, extra-base hits, total bases and sacrifice flies. Detillier hit .307 with 41 runs, 13 doubles, nine home runs and 56 RBI.

Morris rounded out the Lion All-Academic honorees after claiming first team All-Southland recognition last month. Leading the team with a .396 batting average, the Clinton, La. native set new single-season school records with 60 runs scored and 121 total bases to go with 84 hits, 14 doubles, seven triples, 33 RBI and 22 stolen bases.

To be eligible for inclusion on the Southland Conference All-Academic Team, student-athletes must carry a 3.25 cumulative GPA or higher, while a 3.50 GPA is the minimum to be considered for SLC Student-Athlete of the Year.
