HAMMOND – Todd Simko tossed a complete-game two-hitter and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi used a four-run third inning to defeat Southeastern Louisiana, 7-1, in the final game of a three-game Southland Conference series Saturday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

Matt Holland and Sean Washington each belted home runs as A&M-CC (23-21, 8-13 SLC) avoided a three-game sweep. Southeastern, which outscored the Islanders, 22-3, in the first two games, fell to 26-15 on the season and 12-9 in league play.

Simko (6-6) kept the Lions off balance and allowed a fourth-inning single to Jeff Harkensee before Michael Rutland led off the ninth with a single to right-center. The southpaw fanned three and walked four, but was aided by a pair of double plays.

The Islanders broke up a scoreless game in the third inning when Logan Nottebrok and Santiago Ruiz led off with singles before advancing on a sacrifice bunt by Washington. Jeramie Marek then dribbled a 1-and-0 pitch from Southeastern starter Josh Janway (3-2) up the middle to give the Islanders a 2-0 lead.

Two batters later, Holland belted an opposite field home run to left that gave A&M-CC a 4-0 advantage.

Washington led off the fifth inning with a solo blast that landed just inside the left-field foul pole for a 5-0 cushion before Ruiz drove in a pair of runs in the sixth with a one-out single to right.

Southeastern avoided the shutout in the eighth inning as Jonathan Pace and Josh Cryer each drew walks before Pace advanced to third on a fielder's choice. Cass Hargis then hit a grounder to second where Harkensee slid in ahead of the potential force out by Marek, allowing Pace to score from third.

Janway took the loss for Southeastern after allowing four runs on five hits in 2.2 innings. Jason Greenleaf pitched 1.1 innings out of the bullpen for the Lions before Stefan Lopez pitched the final five innings with a career-high seven strikeouts and no walks.

Southeastern will return to action with a pair of midweek games beginning Tuesday at Louisiana-Lafayette. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. The Lions will return home to host UNO on Wednesday in a 6 p.m. contest before traveling to face Sam Houston State in a three-game series beginning Friday in Huntsville, Texas.
