HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team looks to snap a three-game losing streak on Saturday when it plays host to Southland Conference rival Central Arkansas in a 3 p.m. contest at the University Center.
The game is “Take A Kid to the Game” Day with all children ages 12 and under receiving free admission with a paid adult. The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net.
Entering the final week of the regular-season, Southeastern (12-13, 6-7 SLC) looks to climb back in the crowded league standings that features the top 10 teams within three games of each other. The Lions, who are currently ninth in the league standings, look to climb back into contention for their eighth straight berth in the State Farm Southland Conference Basketball Tournament that begins March 9 in Katy, Texas.
Southeastern suffered an 82-69 loss at West Division leader Texas State on Wednesday as the Bobcats overcame a 13-point, second-half deficit to win their ninth straight game at home.
Trent Hutchin scored 18 points to lead Southeastern while
David Ndoumba continued his stellar season with 17 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Hutchin, a senior from Baton Rouge, leads Southeastern in scoring at 15.6 points per game with
Brandon Fortenberry (11.4) and Ndoumba (10.8) next for the Lions.
Gary Dixon (9.3) is next in scoring for Southeastern, which is 7-2 at home this season.
Ndoumba paces the Lions on the glass with 7.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game. Fortenberry averages 4.4 assists per game for the Lions while junior teammate
Deshawn Patterson averages a team-high 1.5 steals.
Southeastern faces a UCA squad (5-21, 1-12 SLC) that has lost its last seven games after posting a 62-59 victory over the Lions on Jan. 26. Mike Pouncy and Imad Qahwash scored 13 points each for the Bears, who held the Lions to 0-for-12 from behind the 3-point line and earned their second win over Southeastern in nine games.
Qahwash leads UCA in scoring at 13.0 points per game with Tadre Sheppard (9.5), Pouncy (9.2), Dewan Clayborn (9.2) and Mark Rutledge (8.9) following.
After facing UCA, Southeastern will close out the regular season with a Wednesday contest at East Division leader McNeese State followed by the Lions' home finale on March 5 against arch-rival Nicholls in a noon contest that will be televised by the Southland Television Network.
