HAMMOND – Fresh off a Southland Conference win over Lamar, the Lady Lions volleyball team hosts conference foe McNeese State Saturday in Dig for the Cure.
First serve for the Southland contest is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the University Center and live statistics will be available at www.LionSports.net. The Susan G. Komen Foundation will be handing out breast cancer awareness and screening information.
Southeastern (5-23, 1-10 Southland) defeated Lamar Thursday for its first conference win of the year and enters the match against the Cowgirls just one win in back of McNeese State in the Southland's East Division standings.
The Lady Lions are led by the trio of
Courtney Donald (2.25 kills per set),
Paige Dollison (2.15 k/set) and
Kinsey Williams (2.10 k/set). Williams has tallied double-digit kills in each of her last two matches.
Sophomore
Lindsey Young averages 7.67 assists and 0.30 service aces (eighth-best in the Southland) per set.
Megan McMillin anchors the back row for Southeastern with 3.47 digs per set. McMillin's average ranks ninth in the conference.
Since defeating Southeastern on Sept. 24 in Lake Charles, McNeese State (7-18, 2-9 Southland) has dropped eight of its last nine matches.
The Cowgirls are led by Nicole Bowden (3.14 kills per set), Maegan Carlton (2.79 k/set) and Taylor Bustamento (2.38 k/set). Bowden ranks fifth in the conference in k/set and seventh in hitting percentage (.297).
Becky Bekelja (9.81 assists per set) directs the McNeese State attack and Whitney Ellisor leads the Cowgirls in digs per set (3.97).
Southeastern hosts its final two home matches of the season Nov. 3 (Texas-Arlington) and Nov. 5 (Texas State). Senior Day activities will be held prior to the final home match of the year.
