THIBODAUX – Nicholls State rallied from behind for the win against the Southeastern Louisiana volleyball team in the deciding fifth set Tuesday in a Southland Conference contest at Stopher Gym.

The Colonels took the match 25-12, 25-27, 21-25, 25-17, 18-16 and swept the season series from Southeastern. The Lady Lions (4-22, 0-9 Southland) finished with five players in double-digit kills and three tied or set new career-highs with double-digit digs, but it was not enough to pick up their first conference win of the season.

Lindsey Young finished with a double-double, tying a career high with 11 digs and a setting a season-high in assists (53).

Courtney Donald led the Lady Lions with 13 kills. Tamra Grayson, Paige Dollison, Kinsey Williams and Elizabeth Ramee contributed 10 kills apiece for Southeastern. Williams finished with .435 hitting percentage to pace the Lady Lions at the net.

Arianne Cruckshank tied a career high with 20 digs for Southeastern and Megan McMillin added 18 for the Lady Lions.

Nicholls State started out the night strong as it picked up the first six points of the night and ran up a 12-1 lead in the first set. After a Southeastern timeout, the Lady Lions rallied for four points on kills by Grayson and Williams in addition to a pair of Colonel attack errors.

The Colonels finished off Southeastern in the first set and took a 10-4 lead in the second set. Rallying from behind after a timeout, Southeastern took a 20-19. A Williams kill coupled with a setting error by the Colonels Rachel Yezak combined to finish off Nicholls State in the second match.

In the third set, the Lady Lions took the early lead and built it up to 17-10. Nicholls State closed within two, 21-19, before Southeastern put the set out of reach with a Dollison kill.

The Colonels kept it close during the early part of the fourth set, but pulled away mid-way through, 18-11. Southeastern never closed the gap.

In the fifth and deciding set there were eight tie scores and five lead changes. Southeastern led 15-14, but was unable to finish off the Colonels.

Jennifer Brandt led the Colonels with 17 kills and finished with 14 digs for a double-double. Jessica Addicks added 16 kills and was one of four Nicholls State players to finish in double-digits. Jordan Karst also posted a double-double with 49 assists and a team-high 16 digs for the Colonels.

Southeastern finishes up a four-match Southland Conference road trip Saturday at Sam Houston State. The Lady Lions finally return home Oct. 27 to face Lamar in a conference contest.
