NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Cedric Scotto and
Horacio Leon each fired an even-par 70 and the Southeastern Louisiana University men's golf team moved up one spot to finish 11th overall as the NCAA East Regional concluded Saturday at The Course at Yale.
Freshman
Philipp Westermann fired a 1-over 71 while fellow freshman
Alvaro Arizabaleta carded a 2-over 72 as Southeastern moved past Vanderbilt in the final standings.
Rasmus Astrand posted a 79 for the Lions, who shot a team score of 283 to finish at 856 for the 54-hole tournament, two strokes ahead of the Commodores.
Westermann posted the lowest score for the Lions in the three-day event, posting a 2-over 212 to finish in 29th place. Scotto finished in a tie for 33rd at 213 while Leon (214) was 36th, Arizabaleta (217) 49th and Astrand (233) was 70th.
Kent State and Texas tied for the top spot while UCLA, Penn State and Virginia also advanced to the NCAA Men's Golf Championships scheduled for June 1-6 at The Honors Course in Chattanooga, Tenn. Texas and KSU finished at 835 for the tournament, holding off a late charge by UCLA which finished one stroke back after posting the lowest round (273) of the tournament.
Penn State was fourth at 837 while Virginia (843) claimed the fifth spot by one shot over East Tennessee State and Charlotte.
ETSU's Rhys Enoch, who finished at -7 for the tournament after posting an even-par 70 in the final round, was the individual qualifier.
