HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana University's
Viggo Hed was named the 2025 Southland Conference Freshman of the Year and earned a spot on the All-SLC Men's Golf teams, which were announced by the league office Thursday.
In addition to being named the Southland's top freshman, Hed was also named to the all-conference team as a second team selection.
Hed is the fourth player in program history to earn SLC Freshman of the Year honors. The Halmstad, Sweden native joins former Lions Brett Bergeron (2003), Philipp Westermann (2010) and Eamon Bradley (2013).
Hed opened his Southeastern career with a third-place showing at the Grover Page Classic, finishing his first tournament as a Lion seven under par. He was named Southland Golfer of the Month for September 2024.
Hed's strong showing out of the gates continued throughout the fall, as he shot under par in each of his first tournaments, culminating with an individual medalist win at the Fall Husky Intercollegiate to close out an impressive fall.
While the spring was not quite as impressive for Hed, he did add three more top-20 finishes to give him six in 2024-25. Hed led SLU with a 72.5 stroke average over 26 rounds, while also earning three match-play victories in the South Texas and Bayou Match Play events.
Hed's second team selection marked the fourth straight season the Lions had at least one player on the All-Southland Conference team. His Freshman of the Year nod prevented conference champion Augusta from sweeping the individual honors, as Bo Blanchard was named Golfer and Newcomer of the Year, while Steven Paine claimed Coach of the Year honors.
