NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman
Philipp Westermann fired an even-par 70 and the Southeastern Louisiana men's golf team fired a team score of 288 to finish in 12th place after the first day of the NCAA East Regional on Thursday at The Course at Yale.

Horacio Leon each carded rounds of 1-over-par 71 as Southeastern finished 14 strokes behind first-day leader Texas. The Lions finished seven strokes behind fifth-place Alabama as the top five teams from each of the six regionals and the low individual not a member of those teams will advance to the NCAA Championship on June 1-6 at The Honors Course near Chattanooga, Tenn.
Westermann, ranked No. 42 nationally in the GolfStat Cup rankings, shot a 1-over 36 on the front nine before shooting a 1-under 34 on the back nine that included a birdie at No. 14.
Arizabaleta opened the day with birdies on two of the first three holes before bogeying three of the next four holes to shoot 1-over on the front nine. The Southland Conference Golfer of the Year birdied at the par 4, 379-yard 11th hole, but bogeyed the par 5, 621-yard No. 18.
Cedric Scotto and
Rasmus Astrand each fired rounds of 6-over 76 for Southeastern, making its fourth appearance in the NCAA Regionals and ranked No. 42 nationally by GolfStat and Golfweek.
Texas' Cody Gribble fired a 6-under 64 to take the first round lead, one shot in front of Rhys Enoch of East Tennessee State and two ahead of Robert Karlsson of Liberty. The Longhorns, ranked No. 7 nationally, posted a team score of 274 and finished three shots in front of Penn State and Kent State with ETSU (278) and Alabama (281) rounding out the top five.
Southeastern will tee off beginning at 7:50 a.m. CDT on Friday and will be paired with UNC-Wilmington and No. 17 South Carolina. Live statistics are available at www.LionSports.net.
