LAFAYETTE – The freshman tandem of
Philipp Westermann and
Alvaro Arizabaleta each recorded rounds of 2-over-par 74 and Southeastern Louisiana overcame soggy conditions and held on to a fourth-place finish as the 25th annual Louisiana Classics concluded Tuesday at Oakbourne Country Club.
Westermann, playing in his third tournament of his collegiate career, finished in a fourth-place tie to post his third top-five finish. Westermann finished the 54-hole tournament at 214 overall, six shots behind medalist Andrew Loupe of LSU.
Cedric Scotto fired a 3-over-75 to finish at 217 for the tournament and in a 10th-place tie. Arizabaleta (74-72-74-220) finished in a 21st-place tie while
James Taverner (75-77-78-230) was tied for 62nd place with
Patrick Solberg (79-82-78-239) was tied for 80th.
Freshman
Rhys West (74-80-77-231), competing as an individual, finished tied for 66th.
LSU, one of three teams to share the lead after the first day, fired a team score of 292 to claim the title with an 54-hole total of 864. Illinois (866), finished second while Tulsa (871), Southeastern (881) and Memphis (882) rounded out the top five.
Texas State (885), UAB (885), Southern Miss (886), UNO (886) and SMU (887) rounded out the top 10.
Southeastern will return to action on Monday when it begins play at the Louisiana Tech/Squire Creek Intercollegiate in Choudrant.
