CHOUDRANT –

Southeastern finished the 54-hole tournament with a team score of 880, one stroke ahead of first-day leader Ole Miss. The tournament championship was Southeastern's first since the claiming the Sam Hall Intercollegiate to open the fall season and the 38th overall team title under head coach Tim Baldwin.

“We're very happy to come back from six strokes back to claim the title over a very good field,” Baldwin said. “This week was a test for us playing against nationally-ranked teams in (No. 54) Ole Miss and (No. 46) Rice. I wanted to get our guys motivated with the Southland Conference Championships coming up. Our top three guys played very well and our No. 4 and 5 guys stepped up in the final round.”

Scotto, the first-day leader, finished at 212 for the two-day event in claiming his second title on the par-72, 7,105-yard Squire Creek Course in the past five months. The junior, who claimed medalist honors at the Squire Creek last October, finished four shots ahead of Jonathan Randolph of Ole Miss and Nate Barbee of Kansas.

Alvaro Arizabaleta and Philipp Westermann
The freshmen tandem of Philipp Westermann (75-73-72-220) and Alvaro Arizabaleta (71-75-74-220) each finished in a fifth-place tie for Southeastern while Rasmus Astrand (77-78-75-230) finished tied for 30th and Horacio Leon (80-76-75-231) finished in a tie for 33rd.

Senior James Taverner (82-77-79-238), competing as an individual, finished in a tie for 61st.

Ole Miss finished second at 881 followed by host Louisiana Tech (900), Oklahoma (903) and UNO (906). Rice (915) finished in sixth place followed by Kansas (924), Stephen F. Austin (927), Houston (928), Jacksonville State (931) and Missouri State (931).

“This was a difficult golf course to play,” Baldwin said. “This was a good test and momentum builder for us as we head into our stretch run. I'm very happy for Cedric, he had an outstanding fall and is starting to come into form as we get ready for the conference championships. For us to have a special year, we need our No. 4 and 5 guys to be more consistent and we have the guys capable of doing that.”

Southeastern will return to action on March 29-30 when it competes in the UALR/First Tee Invitational in Little Rock, Ark.
