Lions Invade Music City To Face Vanderbilt

Southeastern faces second of three SEC squads in 2010-11

Gary Dixon made a season-high three 3-pointers on Wednesday at Alabama
NASHVILLE – Playing its final game before the Christmas holiday, the Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team returns to action on Saturday when it faces SEC member Vanderbilt at Memorial Gym.

Tipoff is schedule for 6 p.m. The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net.

Looking to bounce back after a disappointing offensive performance in its last game on Wednesday, Southeastern (5-3) plays its fourth game of a seven-game road trip that ends on Jan. 2 at Ole Miss. The Lions, who dropped a 59-38 decision at Alabama, shot a season-low 20.3 percent (12-for-59) from the floor including 12.5 percent (4-for-32) in the second half.

Southeastern limited the Crimson Tide to 42 percent from the floor (21-for-50), including 9-for-24 (37.5 percent) in the second half, but the Lions did not make a field goal in the final 8:27 as they missed their final 13 shots.

Trent Hutchin paces Southeastern in scoring at 16.6 points per game with Brandon Fortenberry (10.4), David Ndoumba (10.4) and Gary Dixon (9.9) next. Ndoumba leads Southeastern with 7.4 rebounds per game with Roosevelt Johnson (5.6) and Jason Marks (5.0) following.

Vanderbilt (7-2) returns to action for the first time since Dec. 8 when it had its five-game winning streak snapped in an 85-82 loss at Missouri. The Commodores posted wins over North Carolina, Grambling, Appalachian State, Western Kentucky and Belmont in their win streak.

John Jenkins leads Vanderbilt in scoring at 19.1 points per game with Festus Ezeli (13.6) and Preseason All-SEC selection Jeffery Taylor (12.8) next. Despite a 24-9 record in 2009-10 and returning nine letterwinners, Vanderbilt was picked to finish fifth in the SEC East.

Vanderbilt won the previous meeting between the schools, 80-58, on Nov. 22, 2002.
