TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Coming off an 85-77 victory at in-state rival Southern in its last contest, the Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team continues its seven-game road trip on Wednesday when it faces SEC opponent Alabama at Coleman Coliseum.
Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net. The game will also be televised live on Cox Sports Television (Channel 421 on Dish Network), ESPN Full Court Package (Charter Channel 350) and ESPN3.com. A replay of the game will be available on Cox Sports Television at noon on Thursday.
Southeastern (5-2) returned from a week-long layoff for final exams winning its sixth straight meeting against Southern and improving to 1-1 on its longest road trip since the 1988-89 campaign.
Brandon Fortenberry and
David Ndoumba each posted career-highs with 22 points in the win while
Deshawn Patterson added 14,
Gary Dixon 11 and
Trent Hutchin 10.
Hutchin, who is fourth in the Southland Conference in scoring, leads Southeastern at 18.1 points per game while pacing the league in 3-pointers made per game (3.1) and ranking fifth in 3-point field goal percentage (.500).
Fortenberry is next in scoring for the Lions at 11.8 points while leading the team with 3.7 assists and ranking second in the Southland Conference in 3-point field goal percentage (.579). Ndoumba, the SLC leader in field goal percentage (.719), is Southeastern's third player averaging in double figures at 10.6 points per game while leading the team in rebounds (7.6) and blocked shots (2.1).
Reserve forward
Roosevelt Johnson (9.9), Dixon (9.7),
Jason Marks (5.2) and Patterson (5.0) are next in scoring for the Lions, who average 80.7 points per game while leading the Southland Conference in field goal shooting (.482) and 3-point field goal shooting (.390).
Alabama (4-5), which is 3-0 against Southeastern and looks to snap a two-game losing streak overall, plays its first game at home since a 72-50 win over in-state rival South Alabama. The Crimson Tide dropped contests at Purdue (66-47) and Providence (82-70) and have also lost games to Seton Hall, Iowa and St. Peter's. Three of Alabama's victories this season have come against state schools with wins over Troy and Alabama A&M along with a season-opening win over Florida A&M.
Tony Mitchell averages 14.6 points per game to lead four players in double figures for the Crimson Tide. JaMychal Green (13.3), Senario Hillman (10.2) and Trevor Releford (10.0) are next in scoring for Alabama, which averages 66.0 points per game while allowing 59.2.
Mitchell, an All-SEC Freshman selection last season, paces Alabama with 8.8 rebounds per contest while Releford paces the team with 3.6 assists.
After facing Alabama, Southeastern will continue its road trip on Saturday when it travels to Nashville, Tenn., to face Vanderbilt in a 6 p.m. contest at Memorial Gym.
