Southeastern looks for first win in series since 2007

Simmie Yarborough will pass Felton Huggins as the school's all-time leader in receptions with one catch against Nicholls State
THIBODAUX – Southeastern Louisiana University closes out its 2010 football season on Thursday when it faces arch-rival Nicholls State in the annual River Bell Classic at John L. Guidry Stadium.

Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9), in the New Orleans area on WGSO-AM (990) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net. The game will also be televised on the Southland Conference Television Network with affiliates in New Orleans (WUPL-TV 54) and Baton Rouge (WBTR-TV 41).

Southeastern (2-8, 1-5 Southland) looks to head into the off-season on a positive note while snapping a five-game losing streak in the process. Already the school's all-time leader in touchdown receptions (26), Simmie Yarborough can pass Felton Huggins as Southeastern's all-time leader in receptions with one catch against Nicholls (3-7, 2-4 Southland).

The junior receiver, who has a team-high 54 receptions this season, has caught 162 passes in his career – the same amount as Huggins achieved from 2003-05.

Tyler Beatty has thrown for over 1,400 yards with 13 touchdowns for Southeastern while Brian Young has eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark with four touchdown passes. Sam Fairley has rushed for 474 yards and a TD to lead the Lions on the ground with Brandon Collins (46 receptions) and Kory Theodore (31 receptions) each averaging over 16 yards per catch.

Senior Tommy Connors has 95 tackles to pace Southeastern, which is expected to play without leading tackler Mark Newbill (108 tackles). Curtis Strong (56 tackles), Nathan Clophus (53 tackles) and Clint Coleman (50 tackles) are next for Southeastern, which looks trails the all-time series, 11-8, and looks to claim its first win the series since 2007.
