HAMMOND – Lauren Chapman recorded eight of her team-high 18 kills in a momentum changing second set and Nicholls State rallied to defeat Southeastern Louisiana, 23-25, 25-11, 25-20, 25-22 in a Southland Conference volleyball match Thursday at the University Center.
Jennifer Brandt posted a double-double with 15 kills and 10 digs while Rachel Yezak added 10 kills and 13 digs as Nicholls (12-10, 4-5 Southland) swept the season series. Southeastern, which will close out a four-match homestand on Saturday against Sam Houston State, fell to 10-16 overall and 1-8 in the Southland Conference.
Nicholls nearly claimed the opening set as it led 23-21 on a kill by Brandt before Southeastern rallied to score the final four points, including a pair of kills by
Cherish Krohn. The Colonels took over in the second set as they turned a 5-5 deadlock into a 12-5 lead behind the serve of Yezak.
Chapman, who hit .350 for the match in 40 attempts, recorded four kills during the span as Nicholls hit .469 in the second set while Southeastern hit -.027.
Allison Jones, who led Southeastern with 18 kills in a career-high 40 attempts at the net, kept the Lady Lions in the match as she recorded five kills in the second set and five in the third. The in-state rivals battled through six ties and a pair of lead changes before Nicholls scored three straight points to take an 18-15 lead.
Nicholls closed out the match as Chapman recorded five kills and hit .400 in the final set. A kill by Brandt gave the Colonels a 19-15 lead but Southeastern closed to within 19-18 as Krohn added a kill and
Paige Dollison recorded a service ace which prompted Nicholls to call a timeout.
Out of the timeout, Nicholls capitalized on a pair of errant Southeastern passes before eventually closing out the match on a kill by Chapman.

Lindsey Young had 29 assists to pace Southeastern while
Arianne Cruckshank posted a double-double with 17 assists and 10 digs. Krohn added 10 kills for the Lady Lions while Dollison had 14 digs and
Alex Greer 13.
Courtney Donald notched nine kills and six blocks for Southeastern, which hit .183 for the match.
Jordan Karst posted a double-double for Nicholls with 52 assists and 13 digs. Danielle Daigle led all players with 26 digs while Jasmine Harris added six blocks.
