HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana junior Natalie Santana finished with two goals and three assists for the second straight match, as the Lady Lions scored six goals in the first 16 minutes and closed out its non-conference schedule with a 9-0 victory over Alabama State in women's soccer action Sunday afternoon at the STYSA Soccer Fields.

The victory was the third straight for the Lady Lions (6-3) and the team's sixth shutout victory. Southeastern out-shot Alabama State, 19-1, and dropped the visiting Lady Hornets to 0-9 overall.

“We had a very good effort today,” Southeastern head coach Blake Hornbuckle said. “Natalie continues to be tremendous in controlling the midfield. Maiya Cooper did a nice job in all facets of the game and Lauren Stillians won a lot of balls for us. Defensively, Dana Mayer continues to be a stabilizing force in the back and Nicole Brannigan did an excellent job attacking out of the back.”

Santana was one of six Lady Lions to find the net, as she and Brannigan each scored two goals. Cooper recorded her team-high eighth goal of the season, scoring 26 seconds into the match – the fastest goal in school history. Seniors Candice Wallace, Gloria Burkhart and Mayer, as well as freshman Kerry McWhirter each scored one goal apiece. McWhirter's goal was the first of her career, while Mayer, who moved into the backfield after playing midfielder and forward her first three years, found the net for the first time this season.

After setting a single-match school record with 12 assists in Thursday's 10-0 win over Alcorn State, Southeastern finished with eight assists in this match. Santana joined Wallace as the only student-athlete in school history with multiple three-assist matches. Wallace and Burkhart added two assists apiece and senior Jenna Oney was also credited with an assist.

Southeastern was dominant on defense and has now allowed only five goals in nine matches. Sophomore goalkeeper Lacey Bockhaus posted her fifth shutout of the season.

Santana and Wallace moved into a tie for third place on the school's career list with 18 assists each. Wallace now ranks eighth in school history with 17 career goals and passed former Lady Lion Kim Kwolek to move into sixth on the school's career list with 52 career points. Santana also now ranks among the program's career leaders in goals (15, 10th) and points (48, 8th).

Southeastern will open Southland Conference play next Sunday, hosting Nicholls at 1 p.m. at the Southeastern Soccer Complex.
