Southeastern Closes Non-Conference Play Versus Alabama State

Site still to be determined for Sunday's match at 1 p.m.

Brittany Prieto and the Lady Lions host Alabama State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana women's soccer team will close out its non-conference schedule on Sunday, hosting Alabama State at 1 p.m.

The location of the match between the Lady Lions (5-3) and visiting Lady Hornets (0-8) is yet to be determined. The match will be played at the Southeastern Soccer Complex if field conditions improve. Should the field conditions continue to be poor, the match will be played at the STYSA Fields on South Morrison Boulevard, where Southeastern picked up a 10-0 win over Alcorn State on Thursday. A decision on the location of the match is expected on Saturday.

In the win over ASU, Southeastern freshman Maiya Cooper posted her first career hat trick and added two assists. Junior Natalie Santana added two goals and both she and senior Gloria Burkhart dished out three assists. Santana and Burkhart are the first student-athletes in school history to post three assists in the same match and the duo helped Southeastern set a new single-match school record with 12 assists as a team.

Offensively, Southeastern has scored 25 goals through eight matches and 12 different Lady Lions have found the net. Cooper leads the team with seven goals, followed by Santana with four, freshman Karly Dagys with three and a trio – freshman Lauren Stillians, senior Candice Wallace and senior Jenna Oney – with two.

Santana leads the team with five assists, followed by Burkhart with four, along with Cooper and Stillians with three each. Four Lady Lions – Wallace, senior Dana Mayer, freshman Kailey Mills and junior Nicole Brannigan – have two assists each.

Santana, Wallace and Mayer are all among the school's career scoring leaders. Wallace is currently eighth in school history with 16 goals, followed by Mayer and Santana, who are tied for 10th all-time with 13 goals each.

Wallace is also eighth in school history with 16 assists, while Santana is tied for ninth with 15. Wallace sits in seventh place with 48 career points, followed by Santana, who is tied for ninth with 41.

Defensively, Southeastern has allowed only five goals this season and all five of their victories have been shutouts. The defensive backfield of junior Brittany Prieto, sophomore Kyle MacIntosh, Brannigan and Mayer has been dominant, while sophomore Lacey Bockhaus has a 0.64 goals against average and four shutouts to her credit.

Alabama State heads to Hammond looking for their first win of the season, having dropped a 4-2 decision to Huntingdon College in its most recent contest. Danielle Miller leads the Lady Hornets and has scored all five of ASU's goals this season, while Franka Schauss has a team-high three assists.

Veronique Lamontagne has handled the majority of the work in the net for ASU and comes into Sunday's match with a 12.60 goals against average. Alabama State has struggled defensively, allowing 91 goals through the season's first eight matches.

Following Sunday's match, Southeastern will have a week off to prepare for next Sunday's home opener versus Nicholls at 1 p.m. at the Southeastern Soccer Complex.
