Southeastern Heads North to Face In-State Non-Conference Foes

Lady Lions face Grambling on Friday, ULM on Sunday

Lacey Bockhaus and the Lady Lions head to north Louisiana for a pair of matches this week
HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana women's soccer team will head to north Louisiana for a pair of non-conference contests against in-state rivals this week.

The Lady Lions (1-2) begin their trip on Friday, facing Grambling (1-3) at 3 p.m. On Sunday, Southeastern takes on former Southland Conference rival Louisiana-Monroe (1-3) at 1 p.m. Live stats for Sunday's match will be available at www.ulmathletics.com.

Friday's match will be Southeastern's first official match since a 2-0 loss at Southern Miss on August 30. Last Sunday, Southeastern hosted Jacksonville State and jumped to a 1-0 lead less than three minutes into the match on a goal by freshman Karly Dagys. Unfortunately for the Lady Lions, heavy rains and frequent lightning intervened, forcing the suspension and eventual cancellation of the match 30 minutes in.

Southeastern's top goal scorers are senior Jenna Oney and freshman Maiya Cooper – each with two goals apiece. Freshman Lauren Stillians, junior Natalie Santana, freshman Megan Miller and Dagys also have goals to their credit this season.

Defensively, the Southeastern backfield of junior Nicole Brannigan, sophomore Kyle MacIntosh and junior Brittany Prieto have held opponents to three goals this season. Sophomore goalkeeper Lacey Bockhaus has logged the majority of the minutes in goal and has a 1.06 goals against average.

Grambling is coming off a 4-0 loss to Arkansas State in its most recent outing. Southeastern will be the third Southland Conference member Grambling has faced this season. After dropping a 2-0 decision to Northwestern State in the season opener, the Lady Tigers picked up a 1-0 win over Central Arkansas last Friday.

Friday's match will be the first-ever meeting between the Lady Lions and Grambling. The Lady Lions are 15-0 all-time versus members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

Louisiana-Monroe will be looking to snap a three-match losing streak. After opening the season with a 5-1 victory over Belmont, the Warhawks has suffered defeats at the hands of Tulsa, Oral Roberts and Northwestern State.

Lindsey Tubbs leads ULM with three goals and is the only student-athlete on the roster with multiple goals. Alex Holland (3.60 GAA) and Mallory George (5.33 GAA) have split time in the net for the Warhawks.

Southeastern and Louisiana-Monroe were Southland rivals from 1999 until ULM left to become a member of the Sun Belt Conference following the 2005 season. The Lady Lions are 9-6-1 all-time versus ULM. The Warhawks have won the past three matches in the series.

Following this weekend's action, Southeastern will return home for a season-long four-match home stand. Next week, the Lady Lions host Arkansas-Little Rock on Friday at 4:30 p.m. and Louisiana-Lafayette for a 1 p.m. match on Sunday.
