HAMMOND – Forty Southeastern Louisiana University student-athletes were among the over 1,100 graduates to have degrees conferred at the university's spring commencement ceremonies Saturday at the University Center.
Three former Lion and Lady Lion student-athletes received master's degrees. Maja Bradonic (women's tennis), Eddie Brescher (men's golf) and Leonie Ezegbunam (women's track and field) each completed their graduate studies this semester.
The Lion baseball team led the department with eight student-athletes earning bachelor's degrees. Coach
Jay Artigues' squad was represented by Chris Cappo, Ryan Collins, Jordan D'Arensbourg, Xavier Qualls, Robert Rugg, Matthew Schexnayder, Brandon Street and Casey Summerlin.
The Southeastern football team also was well represented with seven graduates: Brent Blazevich, Keithshone Dantzler, Brock DeLong, Darnell Jones, Krishna Muhammad, Cody Samples and Walter Vaughn. Aimee Davis, Shalayne Heffner, Kristin McDonald, Holly Moran and Janae Sheldon gave the women's soccer program five graduates.
Four different programs had three graduates apiece on Saturday. Rebecca De la Garza, Jessica Sander and Nicole Schoenberger represented softball, while Kristy Carlin, Charinee Mitchell and Brooke Necaise were products of the women's basketball program. Both men's – Babatunde Babalola, Christopher Labat and Avery Sorapuru – and women's – Roseann Bell, Jalynn McDonald and Casey Zeller – track and field had three graduates.
Lydia Adeosun and
Emilyn Jordan gave volleyball two representatives. Matthew Carvell (men's golf), Iva Velkovska (women's tennis) and Matthieu Leboucher (men's tennis) were the lone representatives from their respective sports.
