HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University football, two-time reigning Southland Conference champion volleyball and soccer teams will host conference foes, while the cross country, golf and two-time reigning SLC Tournament champion softball teams will also be in action during this week in Southeastern Athletics.
 
The Southeastern football team (2-2) will open league play Saturday, hosting UTRGV at 6 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium. Saturday's game, sponsored by Champagne Beverage, will be Solid Gold Saturday, as all fans are encouraged to wear gold.
 
The SLU volleyball team (7-4) returns home for the first time in nearly a month for three matches in the University this week. Southeastern opens the week Tuesday with a 6:30 p.m. contest, closing out nonconference play versus Southern.
 
The Lady Lions will then open Southland Conference play Thursday, welcoming McNeese for a 6:30 p.m. match. Prior to the match, SLU will unveil the 2024 SLC championship banner. Thursday also features the Dig the Lions promotion, as the first 250 students in attendance will receive a free t-shirt.
 
SLU closes the week Saturday, hosting Nicholls at noon. As part of Solid Gold Saturday, fans are encouraged to wear gold to cheer on the Lions at the UC.
 
The Lady Lion soccer team (2-4-2, 1-0 SLC) carries a two-match winning streak and four-match unbeaten streak into this week's action. SLU hosts Stephen F. Austin Thursday at 7 p.m., before welcoming Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for a 1 p.m. contest Sunday. Sunday's match features the Pack the Berry promotion.
 
The Southeastern cross country teams will be back in action this week. The Lions and Lady Lions will head to Thibodaux for the Nicholls Cross Country Invitational Saturday. The women's 5K is set for 8 a.m. with the men's four-mile race following at 8:30 a.m.
 
The SLU men's golf team returns to the course for its second fall tournament this week. The Lions will be in Oneonta, Ala. Monday and Tuesday to play in the GMAC Invitational.
 
The Lady Lion softball team will open its fall exhibition schedule this week. Southeastern hosts Pensacola State Friday at 4:30 p.m. for a 10-inning exhibition at North Oak Park.
 
On the Air
This week's football, soccer and volleyball action will be televised on ESPN+.
 
The 2025 season of Inside Southeastern Football with Frank Scelfo will continue Monday at 7 p.m. at Brady's in downtown Hammond. Scelfo and host Allen Waddell will discuss all things Lion football on the hour-long show weekly during the season, which airs on the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 97.7 FM/WFPR 1400 AM).
 
Jonathan Wong of Cate Street Seafood Station will be Monday's Community Spotlight Guest.
 
The same Southeastern Sports Radio Network stations will broadcast Saturday's football game. All of this week's volleyball action and Sunday's soccer match can be heard in the Hammond area on 90.9 The Lion.
