Lions Look to Split Season Series with No. 6 LSU

Southeastern looks to maintain momentum against Tigers

The Lions will look to split a season series with the LSU Tigers on Teusday night.
HAMMOND - After claiming its 15th come-from-behind victory on Sunday for its third win in its last four games on Sunday, the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team (23-15, 12-9 Southland Conference) will try to carry that momentum into a pair of midweek contests on the road against in-state rivals to open up a six-game road trip.

First up, Southeastern will look to split a two-game season series with national power LSU, which claimed a 16-5 win in the series opener on March 10 at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field in Hammond.

Tuesday night will mark the first contest between the two in-state rivals in the New Alex Box Stadium, and the Lions are hoping to repeat the success they found at the original Alex Box Stadium in 2008.

Southeastern claimed a 6-3 win over the Tigers in Baton Rouge on March 11, 2008, marking the first win by a Lion squad at LSU since 2002.

A win on Tuesday would give the Lions consecutive road wins at LSU for the first time in Southeastern's NCAA Division I history (dating back to 1981).

However, the Lions know they have their work cut out for them as LSU enters the contest ranked No. 6 in the nation by Baseball America, and looking to break out of a skid that has the Tigers losing three of their last four.

Southeastern will send junior left hander Shawn Herring to the mound to face LSU right hander Ben Alsup.

First pitch at the New Alex Box Stadium is set for 6:30 p.m.  Live stats and streaming audio play-by-play will be available online at www.LionSports.net, and the game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU 90.9 FM.

The game will also be broadcast live across the state on Cox Sports Television.  Lion fans can check their local listings for channel information or call their cable or satellite provider.

Following Tuesday's contest against the Tigers, the Lions will return to Baton Rouge on Saturday to conclude a season series with the Southern Jaguars.

First pitch for Wednesday is set for 6 p.m. at Lee Hinds Field.

With games against a pair of in-state rivals, the Lions will look to continue the season-long success against Louisiana schools.  Southeastern has gone 8-2 in its first ten games against in-state foes.  The Lions only losses have come at the hands of LSU and Tulane (April 14).

Southeastern has claimed wins against UL-Lafyaette (twice), Tulane (twice), Southern (once) and McNeese State (three times).

The Lions will return to Southland Conference action this weekend when they visit Sam Houston State for a three-game set beginning on Friday.  Southeastern's longest road trip of the season ends at Jackson State on April 28.
