Lions Finish In Fifth-Place Tie at LSU/David Toms Intercollegiate

Southeastern gets set for Carter Plantation Intercollegiate

Cedric Scotto posted the low round (71) on Tuesday for Southeastern
BATON ROUGE – Southeastern Louisiana's Cedric Scotto shot an even-par 71 to lead the Lions' golf team to a fifth-place tie as the inaugural LSU/David Toms Intercollegiate on Tuesday at The Country Club of Louisiana.

Southeastern, which hosts the Carter Plantation Intercollegiate beginning Monday, posted a team score of 287 in the final round to finish at 851 for the 54-hole tournament. The Lions finished tied with Rice after the Owls posted the low round of the day (279).

“The conditions were more difficult today with wind and periods of rain,” Southeastern head coach Tim Baldwin said. “I am proud of the guys for their team effort for the week. We are proving that we are a legitimate team with our best results still ahead of us. We will now prepare for our upcoming Carter Plantation Intercollegiate next week where we will get a good look at some of the other teams in the Southland Conference.”

Tournament host LSU held on for the team championship with a 54-hole total of 844, one stroke better than North Florida and Kent State, and five shots ahead of fourth-place Ole Miss.

Freshman Alvaro Arizabelata, one of three Lions to shoot a 1-over 72 in the final round, shot 210 for the tournament and finished in an eighth-place tie to lead Southeastern. Scotto, who shot a 3-under 68 in Monday's second round, finished at 211 for the tournament and tied for 11th.

Tommy Sikes shot a 72 to finish at 217 for the two-day event with Horacio Leon and James Taverner each finishing at 222. Freshman Rhys West, playing in his first collegiate tournament for the Lions, shot a 3-over 74 to finish as the top individual (216) for the tournament.
