NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Southeastern Louisiana freshmen Karly Dagys and Maiya Cooper each scored goals to help the Lady Lions remain unbeaten in Southland Conference play with a 2-0 victory over Stephen F. Austin in women's soccer action Sunday afternoon at the SFA Soccer Complex.

Southeastern (9-3, 3-0 SLC) extended its winning streak to six matches – one short of the school record set during the 2003 season. The Lady Lions snapped a five-match winning streak for Stephen F. Austin (6-7, 3-1 SLC) – which was previously undefeated in Southland play - and picked up their first victory in Nacogdoches since a 1-0 win over the Ladyjacks in the 1998 Southland Conference Tournament championship match.

The 3-0 start to league play is the first for the Lady Lions since 2003, when Southeastern won its first seven league matches. Southeastern also posted its seventh shutout of the season and has outscored opponents, 41-8, through 12 matches this season.

“We're very pleased with the effort our players showed today, especially after winning a hard-fought overtime game yesterday,” Southeastern head coach Blake Hornbuckle commented. “Winning on the road is always a challenge and we're very pleased how our players rose to the challenge versus a very talented Stephen F. Austin team.”

Stephen F. Austin held a 20-13 shot advantage, but the Lady Lion defensive backfield of sophomore Kyle MacIntosh, senior Dana Mayer, junior Brittany Prieto and junior Nicole Brannigan held firm. Sophomore goalkeeper Lacey Bockhaus recorded her sixth shutout of the season and 15th shutout of her career, making a season-high five saves and lowering her season goals against average to 0.68.

The Lady Lions wasted no time jumping on top, finding the net in the third minute. MacIntosh made an aggressive run from the back, penetrated the Ladyjack defense and sent a cross into the box that Dagys knocked inside the post for her fourth goal of the season and a 1-0 lead – an advantage that would stand up until halftime.

Cooper doubled the Southeastern lead and put the match out of the reach with just over 16 minutes left in regulation. The speedy freshman ran down a loose ball and chipped a shot over SFA goalkeeper Courtney Bauder for a 2-0 lead that Southeastern held to the final horn.

The goal was the team-high 11th of the season for Cooper, as the Hawthorne, Calif. native has scored a goal in each of Southeastern's last six matches. Cooper now leads the team and ranks in the program's top all-time single-season performers in goals (7th) and points (25, 9th).

Southeastern will return to action on Friday, hosting UTSA at 4:30 p.m. at the Southeastern Soccer Complex.
