Southeastern (6-1-1) earned its third straight victory on Sunday and posted its sixth shutout of the year. In addition to the performances of Flores, Krawczyk and Burkhart, Southeastern got scores from freshman Adrienne Boasso, freshman Megan Zahnow and senior Sarah Cheung.
Junior Candice Wallace tied a career-high with three assists, while seniors Janae Sheldon and Jehan Ayap were credited with two assists each. Freshman Lacey Bockhaus posted her sixth shutout of the season in goal for the Lady Lions.
Several Lady Lions moved up career and single-season lists on Sunday. With three assists, Wallace now has 39 career points ranking her ninth in school history. Sheldon now has 13 career assists, moving her to eighth place in school history.
Sophomore Natalie Santana recorded her sixth assist of the season on Sunday, allowing to move into a tie for the seventh-highest single-season assist total in school history.
Southeastern outscored its opponents 37-5 during non-conference play. The Lady Lions will head into conference play averaging 4.6 goals per contest.
“We played a pretty complete match today and this was a good performance for us leading into conference play,” Southeastern head coach Blake Hornbuckle commented. “The play of Brittany Flores and Natalie Santana in the central midfield was excellent today.”
Flores opened the scoring with her first collegiate goal in the 10th minute off a pass from Wallace. The two hooked up again 17 minutes later, as Wallace again found Flores for a 2-0 Southeastern advantage.
Two minutes later, Krawczyk pushed the Southeastern lead to 3-0. Wallace and sophomore Nicole Brannigan were credited with assists on Krawczyk's goal. Junior Jenna Oney found Krawczyk again in the 37th minute. The freshman's fourth goal of the season put the Lady Lions up, 4-0.
Burkhart capped the first-half scoring with consecutive goals in the latter part of the first half. Santana found Burkhart in the 39th minute, while Burkhart took a feed from Sheldon in the 41st minute. The Cincinnati, Ohio native now has four goals this season.
Boasso opened the second half scoring nine minutes into the final period with assists going to Ayap and sophomore Brittany Prieto. Zahnow scored her first collegiate goal off an Ayap feed six minutes later to push the lead to 8-0.
Cheung capped the scoring off a feed from Sheldon. Cheung's first career goal provided the final 9-0 margin.
Southeastern will open Southland Conference play on Friday, hosting defending SLC Tournament champion Stephen F. Austin at 4:30 p.m. at the Southeastern Soccer Complex.
