Southeastern fell to 3-1-1 with the loss. UALR improved to 4-4-1 with the victory. The Trojans held a 15-12 shot advantage, but were able to shutout the Lady Lions.
Jessica Beaver scored two goals for the Trojans, while UALR goalkeeper Jane Picarelli had seven saves to earn the shutout. Freshman Lacey Bockhausmade four saves for the Lady Lions, but suffered her first collegiate loss in net.
“We did well in giving ourselves scoring opportunities tonight, but we just did not execute well on our attacks,” Southeastern head coach Blake Hornbuckle said. “We failed to convert on a 1-v-1 opportunity and a penalty kick that would've made a big difference in the match's momentum. They took advantage of their opportunities tonight and we didn't and that was the difference. We have to regroup and get ready for Sunday's match with Arkansas State.”
Beaver gave the Lady Trojans a 1-0 lead in the match's third minute. She took a pass from Dana Sahd and scored from five yards out to set the tone early for UALR. The margin would remain at one, as Picarelli had three saves in the opening half.
UALR doubled its lead in the match's 66th minute, as Grace Rich assisted Beaver's second goal of the match to put the Lady Trojans up, 2-0.
Southeastern had a chance to cut into the lead with 12 minutes left. However, Picarelli made a save on a penalty kick try by senior forward Janae Sheldon to end Southeastern's chance of a comeback.
Rich put the exclamation point on the victory with five minutes remaining, scoring off a feed from Rachael Maina to provide the final margin.
Southeastern will be back in action on Sunday, traveling to Jonesboro, Ark. to face Arkansas State at 1 p.m.
