MONROE, La. -  After picking up their first win of the season on Friday night, the Southeastern Louisiana University women's volleyball team (1-3) tried to get back to .500 against UMKC in Monroe, La. on Saturday morning.  Unfortunately, for the Lady Lions, it would be the Kangaroos who came out on top 3-2 (18-25, 25-19, 25-23, 17-25, 14-16) in a back-and-forth match that went down to the wire in a fifth-set tiebreaker at the Adidas Lady Warhawk Bayou Showdown hosted by UL-Monroe.

Like in Friday night's win over ULM, the Lady Lions dropped the opening set and, like Friday night the Lady Lions came back to win sets two and three.  Unfortunately, for Southeastern, unlike Friday night, the Kangaroos battled back to take the final two sets en route to the win.

Freshman middle blocker Paige Dollison led the offense with 13 kills, after tying for the team lead with 11 in Friday night's win over UL-Monroe, and was joined by junior right side hitters Jessica Srajer (12 kills) and Lauren Mayer (11 kills) as well as sophomore outside hitter Allison Jones (10 kills) to give Southeastern four players with double-digit kills.

Southeastern started slow for the second straight match, as the Kangaroos took a 25-18 win in the first set.   However, the Lady Lions found their side in sets two and three behind a combined 16 kills from Mayer and Srajer to take a 2-1 lead after three.

Dollison tallied three kills and Srajer added four more in set four, but it wasn't enough to hold off a Kangaroo comeback as UMKC evened the match at 2-2 with a 25-17 win to force a fifth-set tiebreaker.

Neither side claimed a decisive lead in the fifth-set, with Southeastern's early 4-1 lead proving the biggest lead either squad would have.  Unfortunately for the Lady Lions, it was UMKC who wound up on top with a 16-14 win to take the match.

The Lady Lions will try to get back on track when they return home for the first time since the Aug. 30 season opener to host ULM on Sept. 16.  Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the University Center in Hammond.  Live stats will be available at www.LionSports.net.
