HAMMOND - Junior middle blocker Julie Elliott led the team with nine kills, sophomore libero Alex Greer led the defense with 18 digs and freshman Paige Dollison sparked a rally with a .750 hitting percentage (3-0-4) off the bench, but it wasn't enough for the Southeastern Louisiana University women's volleyball team (10-17, 3-12 Southland Conference) to avoid elimination from postseason play as Thursday's 3-0 loss to Stephen F. Austin (19-8, 10-5 SLC) knocked the Lady Lions out of contention for the eighth and final spot in the SLC Tournament.
"We passed inconsistently early on, but we were able to adjust as the game went on," head coach Julie Langford said. "Stephen F. Austin is a good team and they played very well tonight, but I was pleased with the way we adjusted tonight."
In a match that saw 15 ties and 11 lead changes, Southeastern got off to a quick start in the first set, taking an early 5-4 lead. Unfortunately, for the Lady Lions, Stephen F. Austin rallied with a 7-0 run to take an 11-5 advantage.
Sophomore outside hitter Kalynn Evans totaled five first set kills to lead the way offensively and Greer posted nine of her 18 kills in the opening frame, but the Ladyjacks pulled away for the final 25-17 win.
The Lady Lions jumped out to an early lead once again as Southeastern saw a 7-5 advantage early in the second set. However, the Ladyjacks rallied once again. Elliott and junior right side hitter Jessica Srajer each posted four kills and junior setter Katie Collins totaled 12 of her 31 assists, but it wasn't enough to overcome a late Stephen F. Austin surge as a 25-20 loss put Southeastern down 2-0.
Looking to force a fourth set, Dollison and Elliott teamed up for three kills each in the third. However, the Ladyjacks were able to hang on to take the final set 25-17 for a 3-0 win.
