CONWAY, Ark. -
Junior right side hitter Lauren Mayer tallied 13 kills and 14 digs, senior middle blocker LaToya Anthony hit .467 (7-0-15) and junior setter Katie Collins added 36 assists, but it wasn't enough for the Southeastern Louisiana University women's volleyball team (9-13, 3-8 Southland Conference) as a Lady Lion rally fell short at Central Arkansas (15-7, 7-4 SLC) by a score of 3-1 (17-25, 21-25, 25-21, 19-25) on Tuesday night.

The Lady Lions found themselves down early as Central Arkansas opened up the first set with a 10-2 run.  The Bears hit .302 (17-4-43) and get out to an 12-point lead at 22-10 before Southeastern mounted a comeback attempt.

The Lady Lions got three kills from Anthony and a pair of kills from Mayer in the first as Southeastern put together a 7-4 rally to cut the deficit to seven points at 24-17, but a UCA kill gave the Bears the 25-17 win and an early 1-0 lead in the match.

Southeastern came out strong in the second set as the Lady Lions hit .265 (15-6-34) as a team in frame number two.  Sophomore outside hitter Kalynn Evans led the offense with four kills and Mayer and junior right side hitter Jessica Srajer added three kills each to help the Lady Lion cause.

After being down early in the second 9-5, Southeastern rallied and was within three at 23-20, but a late UCA run put the Lady Lions down 2-0 after a 25-21 set two loss.

Trying to force a fourth set, Southeastern put together its best offensive performance in the third.  The Lady Lions hit .364 (16-4-33) as a team.

In a set that saw 15 ties and eight lead changes, the Lady Lions rallied from a late 18-16 deficit with a 9-3 run to claim a 25-21 win.  Evans led the way with five kills as the Lady Lions sent it to the fourth.

Unfortunately, for Southeastern, the Bears managed to regroup.  In a competitive final set that included seven lead changes, the Lady Lions were unable to hold off UCA en route to a 25-19 fourth set loss and a 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Bears.

Southeastern will return to action on Saturday as they visit the Northwestern State Demons.  First serve between Southeastern and Northwestern State is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday.
