HAMMOND - Sophomore quarterback Martin Hankins set a school-record with 588 yards passing and threw four touchdowns as Southeastern Louisiana piled up 688 yards total offense and defeated Arkansas-Monticello in an offensive showcase, 46-32, Thursday night at Strawberry Stadium.
Felton Huggins added a school-record 266 yards receiving on 11 catches for Southeastern (1-0), including touchdowns of 78 and 74 yards. Ray Perkins recorded 101 yards on a pair of catches, including a 76-yarder in the third quarter that put the Lions ahead 31-20.
Hankins, who set 20 school, state and NCAA records as a freshman last season, became the school's all-time leader in passing yards in his 13th game as a Lion increasing his total passing yards to 4,125. The sophomore from Hattiesburg, Miss., who scored on a 1-yard plunge, also set the school career record for pass attempts, increasing his total to 632.
Arkansas-Monticello (1-1), a Division II school, tallied 506 yards of total offense as Harlon Hill candidate Cory Allred threw for 461 yards and three TDs. Allred threw touchdown passes to JaMarkus Fobbs, Vick Barrett and Chris Humes, but was sacked four times and tossed in interception with 5:33 remaining in the game.
