HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University football team will open the road portion of its 2026 schedule Saturday, traveling to South Alabama for a 6 p.m. contest at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile, Ala.

The game between SLU (0-1, 0-1 SLC) and the host Jaguars (0-0) will be televised on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM, The Boss 103.7 FM/WFPR 1400 AM).

Southeastern will be looking to bounce back from a 34-28 loss to Southland Conference foe HCU to open the season. The Lions outgained the visiting Huskies, 398-361, but HCU scored 17 points off three SLU turnovers.

Kyle Lowe completed 17-of-27 passes for 150 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in Thursday's loss, while also rushing for 54 yards and a score. Lowe's top targets in the passing game were Lawson Dixon (four catches, 46 yards, 2 TD) and Tristan Goodly (4-33).

Kyree Paul (eight carries, 70 yards), Chad Elzy (13-55), Deantre Jackson (15-46) and Calvin Smith Jr. (7-25-1 TD) all contributed to the Lion ground attack along with Lowe.

Defensively, Trace Carter led the Lions with nine tackles, while Zay Franks intercepted a pass for SLU.

South Alabama will be opening its third season under head coach and former Texas quarterback Major Applewhite. The Jaguars finished 4-8 last season.

Quarterback Bishop Davenport returns under center, after throwing for 2,072 yards, 12 touchdowns and six interceptions on 200-for-294 passing. Davenport is also the team's leading returning rusher, having carried for 326 yards and nine touchdowns last fall. Tirell Johnson (54 tackles) is the top returning tackler for the USA defense.

Southeastern is meeting the Jaguars for the second time in four seasons Saturday. The previous meeting in 2023 went the way of South Alabama, as the Jaguars outscored SLU, 28-10, in the second half to pull away for a 35-17 victory.

The Lions will also be looking to end its winless streak versus FBS competition. Since the program returned from an 18-year hiatus in 2003, SLU is 0-34 in games versus FBS opponents.

Following this weekend's contest, Southeastern will return home next Saturday to host North Alabama at 6 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium. The game, sponsored by Burns Estate Planning and Wealth Advisors, will be televised on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM, The Boss 103.7 FM/WFPR 1400 AM).

Next Saturday is Solid Gold Saturday, as Southeastern fans are encouraged to wear gold. At Friday's North Oaks Health Southeastern Athletics Hall of Fame Banquet, the 2026 Hall of Fame class of Lacey Bockhaus (soccer), Don Griffin (football), Kevin Hughes (football), Gus Malespin (baseball), Cedric Patton (football) and Chris Province (baseball) will officially be inducted, while the 1976 football team, which finished 9-1-1 overall, will also be recognized. The Hall of Fame class will also be honored at halftime of Saturday's game.
