HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University football team will close out its nonconference home schedule Saturday, hosting North Alabama for a 6 p.m. contest in Strawberry Stadium.
The game between SLU (0-2, 0-1 SLC) and the visiting Lions (1-1), sponsored by Burns Estate Planning and Wealth Advisors, will be televised on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM, The Boss 103.7 FM/WFPR 1400 AM).
This week's game features Solid Gold Saturday, as Southeastern fans are encouraged to wear gold.
At Friday's North Oaks Health Southeastern Athletics Hall of Fame Banquet, the 2026 Hall of Fame class of Lacey Bockhaus (soccer), Don Griffin (football), Kevin Hughes (football), Gus Malespin (baseball), Cedric Patton (football) and Chris Province (baseball) will officially be inducted, while the 1976 football team, which finished 9-1-1 overall, will also be recognized. The Hall of Fame class will also be honored at halftime of Saturday's game.
Southeastern could not overcome a 19-point first quarter deficit in last Saturday's 39-14 loss at FBS foe South Alabama.
Kyle Lowe connected with
Lonnie Shinn for a pair of touchdown passes in the road opener for Southeastern, while
Carter Hanberry and
Jordan Okoye led the SLU defense with nine tackles each.
Lowe has thrown for 336 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions on 29-for-47 passing with
Tristan Goodly (six catches, 44 yards) and Shinn (6-73-2 TD) serving as his top targets.
Kyree Paul (80 yards),
Chad Elzy Jr. (62 yards),
Calvin Smith Jr. (62 yards, 1 TD) and
Deantre Jackson (46 yards) are the team's leading rushers.
Okoye leads Southeastern with 18 tackles, followed by Hanberry (15),
Trace Carter (15),
Carter Byrd (11) and
CJ Fraser (10).
North Alabama opened the season with a 22-10 home win over Samford, before dropping a 31-14 decision at FBS opponent Arkansas last Saturday.
Destin Wade (342 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT) leads the UNA offense, while Xavier Johnson (11 catches, 211 yards, 1 TD) and Jalen Fletcher (103 rushing yards) are the top weapons for the visiting Lions.
Avery Howard and Leo Glover share the team lead with 13 tackles each for North Alabama.
Southeastern is 10-1-2 all-time versus UNA. The teams last met in 2021 with SLU opening the home-and-home series with a 49-28 victory in Florence, Ala.
Following Saturday's game, Southeastern will hit the road for three straight games, starting with next Saturday's nonconference finale at ULM. The 3:30 p.m. contest with the Warhawks will be televised on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM, The Boss 103.7 FM/WFPR 1400 AM).
