HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team blasted four home runs in a 16-3, run-rule victory over LSU Alexandria in non-conference action Tuesday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
Every Lion in the starting lineup picked up at least one hit as Southeastern (20-13) pounded out 16 total hits against the Generals (28-12) in the seven-inning contest.
LSUA kept the game close early, taking a 1-0 lead two batters into the game on a solo home run.
Justin Williams answered back with a two-run homer in the bottom of the frame, putting the Lions on top. It was the sixth home run of the season for the senior out of Madison, Mississippi.
A throwing error on bunt coverage eventually led to the Generals regaining the lead with a pair of runs in the third. Once again, SLU wiped out the lead in the bottom of the frame.
Brody Capps led off the third with a double into right-center field. He advanced to third on a flyout and then scored on
Dane Watts' RBI single to left-center.
From that point forward, Southeastern ran away with the game. The Lions scored three runs in the fourth, four more in the fifth and six in the sixth inning.
SLU picked up two-run homers from
Ben Robichaux and
Alex Perry. Capps added a three-run homer to cap the scoring. Robichaux's homer was his seventh of the season. Perry's was his ninth and Capps' was his team-leading 10
th of the season.
Capps (3-for-4) led four Lions with multiple hits, including Perry (2-for-3), Robichaux (2-for-3) and Williams (2-for-3). Capps also drove in four runs.
