BATON ROUGE, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team dropped its final non-conference matchup of the regular season, 12-4, Tuesday against LSU at Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.
Southeastern (28-18) led twice in the first couple of innings before the Tigers (25-21) extended their lead late.
The Lions knocked out the LSU starting pitcher before he recorded an out. With the bases loaded,
Brody Capps greeted reliever Danny Lachenmayer (2-0) with a sacrifice fly to left-center field, bringing in
Ben Robichaux with the first run of the game.
Three consecutive one-out hits led to a pair of Tiger runs in the bottom of the first.
Alex Perry put SLU back on top in the second, launching his team-leading 14
th home run of the season. The three-run blast pushed the Lions out in front, 4-2.
LSU bounced back again in the bottom of the inning, regaining the lead with three runs of its own.
The Tigers tacked on single runs in the fifth and sixth, before posting a five-spot in the seventh.
Lachenmayer earned the win despite allowing three runs – all earned – in 2.0 innings pitched.
Dakota Lee (1-1) suffered the loss, allowing three runs in one inning of relief work.
UP NEXT
Southeastern remains atop the Southland Conference standings, setting up a first-place showdown against Lamar (24-21, 16-8 SLC) this coming weekend in Beaumont, Texas.
The Cardinals are tied with SLU for first place with six games remaining in the regular season. Games in the series are scheduled for 6:05 p.m. Friday, 5:05 p.m. Saturday and 1:05 p.m. Sunday at Vincent-Beck Stadium.
