HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team finished off a series sweep of Houston Christian with a 4-1 victory Sunday in Southland Conference action at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
With the win over the Huskies (18-24, 10-14 SLC), Southeastern (28-17, 16-8 SLC) remains atop the conference standings and sets up a first-place showdown against Lamar (24-20, 16-8 SLC) next weekend in Beaumont, Texas.
Sophomore right-hander
Truitt Webb (4-1) tossed a career-high 7.0 innings, limiting HCU to one run on seven hits. He walked three and struck out five batters on his way to earning the win.
The Lions staked Webb to an early lead. Second baseman
Ben Robichaux led off the bottom of the first with a home run to straight-away center field. The massive blast was his 10
th of the season.
Robichaux also drove in the Lions' second run with a sacrifice fly in the second.
Justin Williams extended the SLU with a solo homer in the third. Williams' 10
th home run of the season gave Webb a three-run cushion as he continued to roll through the Huskies' lineup.
HCU broke through against Webb in the seventh with back-to-back doubles, pushing across a run.
Southeastern picked up an insurance run in the eighth on
Peyton Woods' home run to right-center. The solo shot was his fifth of the season.
Levin Shaffer (0.1 IP),
Logan Freche (0.2 IP) and
Triston Todorowski (1.0 IP) closed out the game for SLU, with Todorowski earning his third save of the season. Huskies' starting pitcher Louis Castano (2-2) suffered the loss, allowing three runs – all earned – in 5.0 innings of work.
Alex Perry (2-for-4), Williams (2-for-3) and Woods (2-for-4) turned in multiple hits for the Lions.

Southeastern closes out its non-conference slate with a 6 p.m. game Tuesday against LSU at Alex Box Stadium Skip Bertman Field in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It is the only matchup between the two teams this season. The game is slated for coverage on SEC Network+.
