Southland Champion Lions Run-Rule Nicholls, 13-1, to Secure Eighth SLC Series Win

SLU (41-11, 22-2 SLC) closes regular season road slate with decisive victory

THIBODAUX, La. – The 2026 Southland Conference regular season champion and two-time reigning SLC Tournament champion Southeastern Louisiana University softball team rolled to a 13-1 victory in five innings over Nicholls in the rubber game of a three-game league series Saturday afternoon at Swanner Field.

Southeastern, which clinched the first-ever SLC regular season championship in program history with Friday's 8-3 win in game two of the series, improved to 41-11 overall and 22-2 in league action with its eighth straight conference series win of the season. Nicholls fell to 27-20 overall and 15-9 in SLC play with the loss.

Cydnee Schneider led SLU at the plate, finishing 4-for-4 with her league-high 19th double and four RBI. Maria Detillier, Ka'Lyn Watson and Shenita Tucker each had two hits apiece for the Lions, who collected 14 hits in the rout.

Hallie Burns (17-4) earned the victory in the circle for Southeastern, as she, Bre Clark and Cera Blanchard combined to hold the host Colonels to just two hits in Saturday's victory.

Southeastern broke the game open early in the top of the second inning. Two Nicholls errors led to three runs, while Colleen Kulivan, Chloe Magee, Detillier and Schneider all drove in runs in a seven-run frame that saw SLU send 12 to the plate to take an early 7-0 advantage.

The Lions kept rolling in the top of the third inning. Shelby Morris and Detillier each drove in runs, then executed a double steal to move SLU into double figures. Schneider doubled home the inning's final run to put SLU up, 11-0.

Nicholls got on the board in the bottom of the fourth, but Southeastern answered right back in the top of the fifth inning. A two-run single by Schneider plated Tucker and Magee to extend the Lion advantage to 13-1.

Blanchard held the Colonels scoreless in the bottom of the fifth to preserve the mercy-rule victory.

Saturday's game was the final road game of the regular season for the Lions. SLU will host Alcorn State Tuesday at 5 p.m. for the final nonconference regular season contest of 2026. Tuesday's game will be sponsored by La Capitol Federal Credit Union and the first 100 fans will receive a free gift from LaCap FCU. Tuesday's contest will be shown on ESPN+.
