HAMMOND, La. – Division I's longest current win streak continued, as the two-time reigning Southland Conference Tournament champion Southeastern Louisiana University softball team extended its winning streak to 23 games with a 4-0 shutout of Lamar on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at North Oak Park.
Southeastern (37-9, 18-0 SLC) completed its sixth straight SLC series sweep and set a new single-season school record with its nation-leading 18
th shutout of 2026. Lamar, which came to Hammond riding the nation's third-longest winning streak, fell to 25-18 overall and 11-7 in league play.
"We're just trying to stay within ourselves and take it one game at a time," Southeastern head coach
Rick Fremin said. "I'm really trying to slow our players down and let them live in the moment and enjoy this success."
Prior to Saturday's series finale, Southeastern recognized the nine members of the 2026 senior class.
Tyler Oubre,
Kailey Dixon,
Cydnee Schneider,
Shenita Tucker,
Macie LaRue,
Ka'Lyn Watson,
Cera Blanchard,
Colleen Kulivan and
Maria Detillier were honored in the pregame Senior Day ceremony.
"This senior group is irreplaceable," Fremin commented. "We love them and they love our staff. Every time out, our coaches feel truly blessed to coach players of the caliber – both on and off the field. This senior group makes our jobs exciting and fun."
Blanchard (12-1) scattered four hits in five innings of work to earn the win in the circle.
Hallie Burns tossed two innings of scoreless relief to claim her second save of the season.
Watson finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored, while
Brilee Ford was 2-for-2 with a team-high three RBI. Dixon also drove in a run for the Lions.
Southeastern got all the runs it would need in the bottom of the second inning off Lamar starter Kaylee Cuevas (6-5). Singles by Schneider and Watson put a pair on with no outs, then Ford ripped a triple into the right centerfield gap to clear the bases. Dixon followed with a slow ground out that allowed Ford to race home for a 3-0 lead.
Blanchard and LU reliever Ava Prejean matched zeroes until Southeastern added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Watson laced a double into the left field corner, then scored on an RBI single by Ford that put the Lions ahead, 4-0.
Burns closed out the game with a 1-2-3 seventh inning, striking out Cimara-lei Wessling for the final out. Southeastern outscored Lamar, which came in to the week in second place in the Southland standings, 20-1, in the three-game sweep, holding a Cardinal lineup that was hitting above .300 for the season to eight hits in the series.
Southeastern will hit the road for six straight games next week, starting with a 4 p.m. doubleheader Tuesday at SLC foe SFA. Tuesday's games will be televised on ESPN+.
