HAMMOND, La. – In the opening of a series featuring the top two teams in the Southland Conference standings, the two-time reigning SLC Tournament champion Southeastern Louisiana University softball team remained unbeaten in league play with a doubleheader sweep of Lamar Friday evening at North Oak Park.
Southeastern (36-9, 17-0 SLC) outscored the visitors, 16-1, in the two wins and extended its school-record winning streak to 22 games. Lamar, which came in to the series having won 14 straight contests, fell to 25-17 overall and 11-6 in league action.
SLU opened the day with an 8-0 mercy-rule victory in five innings.
Macie LaRue (4-2) and
Tyler Oubre combined to hold the Cardinals to two hits to help the Lions tie a school record with its Division I-leading 17
th shutout of the season.
Southeastern recorded 10 hits in the opener, as
Shelby Morris,
Maria Detillier,
Ka'Lyn Watson and
Brilee Ford each had two hits. Detillier hit her team-high eighth home run and drove in three runs, while Ford contributed two RBI and Watson tripled twice.
SLU took advantage of five Lamar errors in an 8-1 victory in the nightcap. Watson and Ford led the Lions with two hits apiece.
Hallie Burns (14-3) threw 4.2 shutout innings of no-hit relief, as she and
Haley Crawford combined to hold LU to two hits.

Game One – Southeastern 8, Lamar 0 (5 Innings)
Southeastern jumped on Lamar ace Reagan Smith (10-3) in the bottom of the first inning. Morris led off the frame with a double and scored on an RBI single by Detillier. Schneider followed with a double to plate Detillier and scored on a triple by Watson. Ford singled home Watson and gave SLU a commanding 4-0 lead.
Tucker led off the bottom of the second with a single, moved to second on a Morris sacrifice bunt, stole third and scored on a LU throwing error to extend the Lion advantage to 5-0.
Ford's RBI double ran the SLU tally to 6-0 in the bottom of the third. Detillier powered a two-run home run over the left field fence in the Lion fourth to close out the scoring. Oubre tossed a scoreless fifth to close out the mercy-rule win.
Game Two – Southeastern 8, Lamar 1
An RBI double by Ariel Flores staked Lamar to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Southeastern answered with a six-run bottom of the second inning. Ford, Morris,
Blair Walsh and Detillier all drove in runs, as SLU sent 10 to the plate on the way to taking a 6-1 lead.
Burns came in to relieve Crawford with one out and pair of runners on in the top of the third inning. The Booneville, Miss. native got out of the jam and retired 14 of the 15 batters she faced in the relief effort with only a fifth-inning HBP spoiling a perfect outing.
Schneider scored Morris with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth, then
Chloe Magee scored on a Lamar error in the bottom of the sixth to close out the scoring.
