Lions Outslug McNeese in Series Finale

LAKE CHARLES, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team launched four home runs Sunday, including three during a four-batter span in the sixth inning, on its way to a 13-8 win over McNeese in Southland Conference action Sunday at Joe Miller Ballpark.

Alex Perry became the second Southeastern (13-11, 5-4 SLC) player in the past two games to hit multiple homers in the same contest, putting the Lions up, 3-0, with a two-run blast in the fourth before later joining the homer barrage in the sixth.

McNeese (12-11, 6-6 SLC) tied the game in the fourth, 3-3, stringing together six hits. After SLU went back up, 4-3, in the fifth, the Cowboys took the lead in the bottom of the inning with a two-run, pinch-hit home run by Simon Larranaga. It was Larranaga's second homer of the season and the series.

Trailing 5-4 in the sixth, Blaise Priester drew a one-out walk. He advanced to second and third on a pair of wild pitches before reliever Jaden Bahl issued back-to-back, two -out walks to Ben Robmichaux and Giovanni Licciardi to load the bases.

McNeese brought in reliever Brady Corcoran to face Brody Capps. Corcoran hit Capps with the first pitch of the at-bat, forcing in the tying run. Peyton Woods then cleared the bases with a grand slam to right field. It was his second homer of the season and the series.

Following a walk to Rhett Centanni, Connor Cuff and Perry hit back-to-back homers off of Corcoran to put the Lions up, 12-5. It was the fourth of the season for both Cuff and Perry.

The Cowboys rallied for three runs in the seventh on a sacrifice fly and a two-run home run, pulling within four, but a leadoff double by Perry in the ninth led to one final run for SLU.

Nik Toups (1-1) earned the win in relief, allowing one run in 0.2 innings pitched. Bahl (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing three runs in 0.2 innings pitched without surrendering a hit.

Perry (3-for-5) and Woods (2-for-4) turned in multiple hits for the Lions.

Southeastern returns to action Tuesday, traveling to No. 25-ranked UL Lafayette for a non-conference contest. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park in Lafayette, Louisiana.
