Lions Fall at McNeese in Extras

LAKE CHARLES, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team fell, 8-7, in 11 innings Saturday at McNeese in Southland Conference action at Joe Miller Ballpark.

Southeastern (12-11, 4-4 SLC) led throughout the first half of the game, rallying in the ninth to tie the game before ultimately succumbing to the Cowboys (12-10, 6-5 SLC).

The Lions jumped out in front early. Ben Robichaux hammered the first pitch of the game out of the ballpark to left-center field. It was his fifth of the season and first of two on the day.

Connor Cuff singled to left-center with one out, advancing to second on an outfield error. Peyton Woods brought him home with his first homer of the season, a rocket hit to right field.

A two-run homer in the bottom of the first brought McNeese within a run, 3-2.

Following a one-out walk to Mo Little in the second, Robichaux launched his second home run of the game. The towering shot to right extended the Lions' lead to 5-2.

A leadoff double in the bottom of the inning led to a Cowboy run.

The teams traded single runs in the fourth, making the SLU lead, 6-4.

A three-run rally in the bottom of the fifth pushed McNeese in front, 7-6, and then the bullpens shut down the offense over the next three innings.

Southeastern tied it up in the ninth. Robichaux led off the inning with a single to left off reliever Paul Coppinger. With two outs, Woods greeted reliever Brady Corcoran with a single to right. Reliever Myles Meyer issued a walk to Justin Williams and then fell behind pinch-hitter Dane Watts, 2-0. Reliever Elliott Burrow finished the plate appearance, walking Watts to bring in the tying run.

Triston Todorowski tossed a pair of scoreless innings in relief for SLU before a pair of hits in the 11th led to the winning run.

Parker Morgan (1-0) earned the win, tossing a scoreless inning and striking out a pair of batters. Todorowski (0-2) suffered the loss, allowing one run in 2.1 innings pitched.

Robichaux (3-for-6), Brody Capps (2-for-6) and Woods (2-for-4) produced multiple hits for the Lions.
