NEW ORLEANS – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team closed out its pre-Southland Conference schedule with a 6-1 road victory at Dillard Sunday afternoon.
Southeastern improved to 7-2 overall with the win, taking five of six singles matches and two of three doubles contests.
"It was good to get a win this afternoon," Southeastern head coach
Jason Hayes commented. "Dillard is a tough team and we came ready to compete."
In doubles play, the SLU duo of
Bente Bierma and
Anicka Panchartek (2-0) cruised to a 6-0 victory over Nanami Fukushima and Haruka Homma on the No. 1 court.
Mariam Tetradze and
Adriana Tirado (6-2) clinched the doubles point for the Lions with a 6-2 win over Dillard's Yiran Chen and Danielle Pitchlyn on No. 3.
In singles play, Southeastern's
Panatchakorn Suanarsa (5-3),
Aitana Darder (1-1), Tetradze (7-0) and Tirado (7-1) all won in straight sets, while
Taisia Bolsova won by default on court 6.
Mariam Makashvili retired up in the first set on No. 2 to give the Bleu Devils their lone point.
Southeastern will return to action next Saturday, traveling to UIW for a 1 p.m. contest to open Southland Conference play.
