Capps, Robichaux Homer to Back Strong SLU Pitching in Lion Win

HAMMOND, La. – Brody Capps and Ben Robichaux launched home runs Saturday, backing strong pitching by a trio of Southeastern Louisiana University hurlers Saturday in a 7-2 Lion win over Southern Illinois-Edwardsville at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

Trailing 2-1 in the fourth, Robichaux pulled a pitch down the right-field line for his first homer of the season. The three-run blast capped a four-run inning, putting Southeastern (1-5) on top to stay.

Capps followed with a two-run blast in the fifth, putting the Lions up 6-2 over SIUE (2-4). It was his second in as many games against the Cougars and third of the season.

An RBI double by Capps in the seventh finished off the SLU scoring.

Starting pitcher Lakin Polk (1-1) bounced back from a tough first inning in which SIUE picked up its two runs, limiting the Cougars to a pair of infield hits over the next five innings.

Luke Lirette (2.0 IP) and Dakota Lee (1.0 IP) finished out the game with scoreless relief.

Polk earned the win, allowing two runs – both earned – in his 6.0 inning effort. He scattered five hits and two walks, striking out one. Four of the five hits Polk surrendered never left the infield.

Cougar starting pitcher Tim Teixeira (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing six runs – all earned – over 4.1 innings of work. He coughed up eight hits and a pair of walks, striking out two batters. He also hit a batter and uncorked a wild pitch.

Capps (2-for-3), Giovanni Licciardi (2-for-4) and Mo Little (2-for-3) contributed multiple hits apiece for Southeastern, while Capps and Robichaux both drove in three runs.
