YOUNGSVILLE, La. – The two-time reigning Southland Conference Tournament champion and No. 25 Southeastern Louisiana University softball team closed out the Mardi Gras Mambo with two more victories Saturday evening at the Youngsville Sports Complex.
Southeastern (9-3) has competed in all six editions of the Mardi Gras Mambo and has amassed a 29-1 record at the event. The Lady Lions have finished the event unbeaten for the fourth straight year and have won their last 23 games in Youngsville.
For his efforts establishing and organizing the annual event, Southeastern head coach
Rick Fremin was presented a key to the City of Youngsville at the city's Mardi Gras parade Saturday morning.
SLU third baseman
Maria Detillier etched her name in Southeastern history Saturday. With four RBI on the day, she now has 144 career RBI as a Lady Lion, surpassing the previous career record of 142 RBI set by former Lady Lion Amber Sather from 2013-16.
In the opening game of the day, SLU broke open a pitcher's duel with a seven-run fifth inning on the way to an 8-0 mercy-rule victory over SIUE (3-5). The Southeastern trio of
Tyler Oubre,
Katherine Thiessen (1-1) and
Bre Clark combined to hold the Cougars to four hits in SLU's fourth shutout victory of the season.
Kailey Dixon and
Shenita Tucker led the Lady Lions with two hits apiece in the win over SIUE. Dixon also scored two runs, while Detillier drove in a pair of runs.
Detillier singled home Tucker in the bottom of the fifth inning to provide the eventual game-winning run in a 3-2 victory over St. Thomas (6-3) in the nightcap. Detillier drove in two runs, while
Shelby Morris led SLU with two hits.
Hallie Burns,
Macie LaRue (1-0),
Haley Crawford and
Cera Blanchard shared the work in the circle, holding the Tommies to five hits in the victory. Blanchard pitched a perfect seventh inning to secure her first save of 2026.
Southeastern will continue its stretch of 20 consecutive games away from home next week, traveling to Conway, Ark. to compete in the UCA Tournament, hosted by Central Arkansas Friday and Saturday.
