HAMMOND, La. – The No. 1-seeded Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team fell, 11-8, Saturday to No. 4-seeded Northwestern State at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field in third-day action at the 2025 Southland Conference Baseball Championships Hammond Bracket presented by GeoSurfaces.
Southeastern (38-16) built a 7-3 lead through four innings over Northwestern State (35-20) in a back-and-forth affair.
Dane Watts led off the first with a triple, scoring on a sacrifice fly off the bat of
TJ Salvaggio as the Lions wiped out a 1-0 deficit.
Logan Walters and
Jude Hall launched solo home runs in the second, wiping out a 2-1 deficit. The homers were the fourth of the year for Walters and ninth for Hall.
One inning later, Walters plated three on a bases-loaded triple to right as the Lions took a 6-3 lead.
Conner O'Neal's two-out, RBI single in the fourth extended the SLU advantage to 7-3.
The teams traded single runs in the fifth.
Northwestern State rallied in the eighth, batting around as they scored seven runs to take the lead.
Left-hander Corbin Talley (1-0) earned the win with 4.1 innings of shutout relief. He scattered three hits and did not walk a batter, striking out two.
Nick Gisclair (2-1), the third of four Lion pitchers, suffered the loss. He faced three batters, walking a pair and giving up a two-run double.
Watts (3-for-5), O'Neal (2-for-5), Walters (2-for-5) and Hall (2-for-3) turned in multi-hit performances at the plate for Southeastern.
With a pair of home runs in the game, the Lions tied the program single-season record with 86 this season.
