MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Conner O'Neal,
Parker Coley and
TJ Salvaggio all homered as the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team defeated Memphis, 8-3, Sunday at FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field to win the non-conference series, two games to one.
Southeastern (12-3) jumped on the Memphis (9-6) starting pitcher in the third inning, taking a 6-0 lead.
Giovanni Licciardi and
Dane Watts knocked back-to-back singles off Tiger right-hander Caden Robinson to open up the frame.
Cole Stromboe sacrificed both runners into scoring position.
Ryan Brome plated both Licciardi and Watts with a two-out, bloop double down the right-field line.
Salvaggio kept the inning alive with an infield single. O'Neal launched a 3-2 pitch off the light tower in right field for a three-run home run.
Parker Coley followed with a solo shot to left. The home runs were the second of the series for both in addition to being the fourth of the season for Coley and fifth for O'Neal.
Memphis picked up a pair of runs in the fourth on a two-run single by designated hitter CJ Willis.
Salvaggio added an insurance run in the seventh, leading off the inning with a solo home run to left. It was his second of the series and third of the season.
A leadoff double in the bottom of the inning would lead to Memphis' final run of the game as the Tigers eventually ran a double steal with runners on the corners.
SLU picked up its final run in the ninth. After a one-out double by
Lakin Polk put a pair of runners in scoring position, Coley scored from third on a wild pitch.
Aiden Vosburg (1-0) earned the win in long relief, allowing one run in five innings pitched. He surrendered two hits and four walks, striking out four batters. Robinson (1-2) suffered the loss, allowing six runs – all earned – in three innings of work.
Coley (2-for-4), O'Neal (2-for-3), Salvaggio (2-for-5) and Stromboe (2-for-2) all contributed multiple hits as the Lions picked up 13 hits in the game.
After hitting eight home runs in the series, Southeastern's season total now stands at 31 through 15 games.
