HAMMOND, La. – The reigning Southland Conference Tournament champion Southeastern Louisiana University softball team completed a series sweep of East Texas A&M to open Southland Conference play with a 10-2 mercy rule victory Saturday morning at North Oak Park.
Southeastern (19-7, 3-0 SLC) shook off an early 2-0 deficit, scoring in all but one inning. The sweep of ETAMU (4-21, 0-3 SLC) marked the seventh straight season in which SLU has won the opening series of Southland play.
Maria Detillier continued her torrid performance at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. She and
Maddie Watson each drove in a pair of runs, while Detiller and
Blair Walsh shared team-high honors with two runs scored.

Macie LaRue (7-0) and
Hallie Burns combined to hold the visiting Lions to three hits. Southeastern outscored East Texas A&M, 27-4, in the three-game series sweep.
ETAMU took the early lead in the top of the first inning. A two-run home run by Stephanie Tapia put the visitors up, 2-0.
Southeastern got on the board versus Lion starters Julia Sanchez (1-9) in the bottom of the first inning.
Shelby Morris led off the game with an infield single, stole second and scored on an RBI single by Detillier to cut the lead to 2-1.
The Lady Lions tied the game in the bottom of the second. A sacrifice fly by
Shenita Tucker plated pinch runner
Brilee Broussard to knot the game at 2-2.
Southeastern took the lead for good in the third. Sanchez hit
Chloe Magee to start the inning. Magee then swiped second and scored on a double by Detillier. Detillier would score later in the inning on an RBI groundout by
Colleen Kulivan to extend the SLU lead to 4-2.
LaRue pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the fourth, then Southeastern blew open the game in the bottom of the frame. Tucker led off the inning with a single and later scored on an RBI groundout by Morris.
Blair Walsh followed a Detillier double with an RBI single.
Cyndee Schneider followed with a triple to the right centerfield gap to score Walsh, then scored on a double by Watson. An RBI single by
Kailey Dixon closed a five-run inning that saw SLU send 10 to the plate on the way to a 9-2 lead.
Southeastern ended the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Walsh drew a leadoff walk and would later score on an East Texas A&M error to secure the run-rule victory.
